Patron Code of Conduct

WHEREAS, RCW 27.12.290 the Sprague Public Library deems it in the best interest of the Library to authorize the Library Director to exclude from the use of the library any person who willfully and persistently violates any rule or regulation prescribed for the use of the Library or its facilities or any person whose physical condition is deemed dangerous or offensive to other Library users; and

WHEREAS, it is the intent of Sprague Public Library patrons to allow use the Library’s facilities to the maximum extent possible and to ensure the greatest benefit to the greatest number of residents; and

WHEREAS, it is the intent of Sprague Public Library to use its facilities to the maximum extent possible during its regularly scheduled hours; and

WHEREAS, the Library is open to the public for the specified purposes of reading, studying, researching and appropriate use of Library resources,

NOW, THEREFORE Sprague Public Libray deems it necessary to pass the following reasonable rules and regulations:

The Library Director is authorized to issue written trespass notices to persons who are in violation on any of the listed standards below.

1.   Patrons shall be engaged in normal activities associated with the use of the Public Library while in the building. Patrons not engaged in reading, studying, research, or appropriate use of Library resources may be asked to leave the building. Loitering will not be tolerated.

2.   Patrons shall respect the rights of other patrons and Library employees and shall not annoy others through noisy or boisterous activities, by cell phone use, by monopolizing resources, or by other behavior which may reasonably result in the disturbance of other persons in the Library.

3.   Personal hygiene shall conform to the standard of the community for public places.  This shall include the repair or cleanliness of garments. Patrons whose bodily hygiene is offensive so as to cause a nuisance to others shall be required to leave the building.  Patrons are expected to wear appropriate clothing while using library facilities, including shirts and shoes.

4.   Patrons shall be expected to conduct themselves in such a manner that their behavior does not interfere with another patron’s reasonable use of the Library’s facilities, or interfere with the work of library staff. All patrons are required to respect the privacy of others using the Library.

5.   Smoking is not permitted in any area of any library facility, or in any area where secondary smoke will enter a library facility. NO food or beverages will be allowed.
